FedEx shooting victim Christopher Sparkman prepares for 49th surgery

Christopher Sparkman, the security guard most grievously injured when a suicidal gunman went on a rampage at a FedEx facility in Cobb County two years ago, faces surgery #49 soon.

His wife Jamie Lynn Sparkman, who has kept supporters apprised of updates, posted the information with a mix of weariness and optimism in her words.

Here's a photo of Jamie Lynn and Christopher Sparkman at the time of his 39th surgery earlier this year. Next up: #49.

“Christopher and I wanted to give you all a current update. He spent the week at Emory, where he is now a patient of a team of surgeons we like very much. His visit was scheduled, and they performed multiple tests, replaced his picc line, and sharpened his IV nutrition recipe in hopes to get his body ready for surgery again in the late Fall or early winter of this year.

Chris’ poor quality of life has become a factor in determining the next surgery. We are asking for prayers for the doctors to use discernment and experience when deciding the timing of the 49th surgery, the one we believe God will use to give Chris his life back.

We are so grateful to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and Chris’ initial trauma surgeons, the ones who saved his life, because without them we wouldn’t have this opportunity at Emory. Without them, I wouldn’t have my precious husband.

This surgery will be victorious. We are believing that with all that we have left in us.
“You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north. (Duet. 2:3)

Thank you,
Jamie Lynn”
