TIME/TV: 1:05 p.m., YES Network and MLB Network

WEATHER: Seems to have actually cooled down since this morning, maybe that’s wrong, though. Nice afternoon. Sunny. Blue skies. No complaints.

UMPIRES: HP Lance Barrett, 1B Tom Woodring, 2B Dan Iassogna, 3B CB Bucknor

SECOND TIME AROUND: For the first time in his brief big league career, Luis Severino is facing a team for the second time. Last time he saw Cleveland, Michael Brantley’s double was the only extra-base hit he allowed. Severino is still looking for his first win.

ON THIS DATE: It was on August 22, 1996 that the Yankees claimed Luis Sojo off waivers from Seattle. Sojo went on to win four World Series rings as a utility man with the Yankees.

UPDATE, 1:36 p.m.: Posada was terrific in his press conference after throwing out the first pitch. Meanwhile, the Yankees have a 3-1 lead after one inning because of home runs by Brett Gardner and Brian McCann.

UPDATE, 1:53 p.m.: Couple of singles. An error. A sac fly. Yankees have added two more runs in the second and they’re up 5-1.

UPDATE, 2:09 p.m.: I tend to agree with Francona that Gregorius was absolutely pulled off the bag by Bird’s off-target throw to second, but I don’t think the neighborhood play is reviewable, and so the out stands and Francona is ejected.

UPDATE, 3:15 p.m.: So much going on today, it’s been hard to keep pace. Severino is finished after six innings. He allowed just one run and struck out six, pitching his way around four walks including two in his final inning. The Yankees are still up 5-1 as Warren comes in to start the seventh.
