TIME/TV: 7:10 p.m., YES Network

WEATHER: Nice and sunny.

UMPIRES: HP James Hoye, 1B John Hirschenbeck, 2B Laz Diaz, 3B John Tumpane

LAST TIME: Masahiro Tanaka has made one career start against the Mets. You might remember it. It was a complete game here at Citi Field last May. Collectively, this current group of Mets has 35 at-bats against him, and they’ve hit .143/.167/.171. Yoenis Cespedes has the most experience against Tanaka with three singles and one walk in 10 at-bats.

FIRST TIME: The Yankees are 17-7 in games started by opposing rookie pitchers this season. In those 24 starts, those rookie starters have gone 6-11 with a 5.23 ERA and the Yankees have hit .272 with 19 homers against them.

THIS TIME: The Yankees are trying to continue a pretty good streak here at Citi Field. Last saeson, the Yankees threw shutouts in both games at Citi Field, and they carry an 18-inning scoreless streak into tonight’s game. They were the first visiting team to throw back-to-back shutouts at this stadium.

UPDATE, 7:16 p.m.: Strong boos for Chris Young’s first plate appearances — you’d think he once stunk in this ballpark — but the Yankees are in business with one out and runners at the corners.

UPDATE, 7:17 p.m.: Sac fly and the Yankees have a 1-0 lead in the first.

UPDATE, 7:27 p.m.: That’s a 1-2-3 first inning for Tanaka.

UPDATE, 7:35 p.m.: Masahiro Tanaka. Not a great bunter.

UPDATE, 7:44 p.m.: Home run off the second deck for Lucas Duda. Solo shot on a 1-2 pitch to tied the game at 1.

UPDATE, 8:17 p.m.: Tanaka with a ground ball to leave runners stranded at second and third in the fourth inning.

UPDATE, 8:35 p.m.: Five innings. One run. Neither offense doing much of anything. Yankees have five more hitters before Tanaka’s spot comes up again.

UPDATE, 8:56 p.m.: Solo homer by Murphy has pushed the Mets in front 2-1 in the sixth. Yankees had a chance to cash in with runners at the corners in the top of the inning, but Brendan Ryan grounded out to end it. Assume Girardi thought the Mets would walk A-Rod if he pinch hit in that situation. Would have brought Tanaka to the plate, and I can’t imagine the Yankees wanted to pull Tanaka that early.

UPDATE, 9:01 p.m.: Mets go to their bullpen. Matz is finished after six innings.

UPDATE, 9:03 p.m.: Ellsbury pinch hitting for Tanaka to start the seventh.

UPDATE, 9:12 p.m.: Ellsbury staying in the game to play center field. Shreve now pitching and batting in the No. 4 spot (assume Rodriguez or McCann will pinch hit in that spot anyway).

UPDATE, 9:19 p.m.: Broken-bat single comes back to hurt Shreve. After Flores singled, Juan Uribe pinch hit and delivered a two-run homer for a 4-1 lead in the seventh. Not what you want.
