Capuano DFA for the fourth time; Rumbelow optioned to Triple-A

RumbelowTo make room on the roster for Michael Pineda and Nick Goody, the Yankees have optioned Nick Rumbelow back to Triple-A and yet against designated Chris Capuano for assignment.

The DFA is the fourth of the season for Capuano. He was also designated for assignment July 29, August 15 and August 22. Today’s move means four DFA in the span of a month for the veteran lefty. Each time he’s returned as an emergency long man. I suppose there’s still a chance he’ll ultimately report to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre make a start or two and come back in September.

For Rumbelow, being optioned today means he can’t return on the day rosters expand on September 1. Optioned players have to remain in the minor leagues for 10 days before being recalled. I believe players can be brought back as soon as the Triple-A season ends, but Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s season runs through September 7, so his 10 days will pass before that time.
